This is the true story of two children, a black boy living on the fringe of white man's towns, and a white girl from the city sent to the country to escape a diphtheria epidemic. They meet and grow up together - then lose contact for many years, finally finding each other again in the Aboriginal slums of Sydney. This gave rise to the author's passionate quest for justice for the Aboriginal people she regards as her true friends. A touching and gentle story of a frindship that leads to reveal the shocking truth about the way the Aboriginal people are treated in Australia today.
